The Davis Cup tournament was conceived in 1899 by four members of the Harvard University tennis team.
The Davis Cup is the most important team competition in this sport. It is an annual tournament that is run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and is contested between teams of players from the competing countries in a knock-out format. Each series in every Davis Cup round consists of 5 matches between two countries. It is played in three days, the two matches in the first day are singles, the second day is destinated to a doubles match and last day is for the final two singles, usually played by the same contestans of the first day buy swapping opponents.
